In the movie Limitless, Bradley Cooper plays a broke writer, who accidentally comes across a drug that literally unlocks his brain, allowing him to conquer the stock market in a couple of days, as well several other feats. Many people would do anything for a drug like this, but what happens if it already exists? Addium, a "brain enhancing drug" has been available to the public for some time now, and users cant say enough about it. I have heard reviews saying that it gives them "Laser focus", completely eliminates procrastination, and even boosts memory. Although the description says there aren't any side effects and it's all natural, I find my self still skeptical. In my opinion, boosting something in the body that isn't designed to be operating at the level always has a consequence. Even the most common medicines have negative aspects to them.
During Friday nights performance of the Fenn/NBS musical, "curtains" something pretty scary happened. With around twenty minutes left, we all were shaken by a strange gasping sound that flooded the hall, within seconds that lights had been turned back on and we all saw a woman unconscious in her seat. I do not feel that is appropriate to say what I believe happened, for it is just speculation. But, I can confirm that it was a beloved former Fenn drama director that had been the victim of this horrible ordeal. Most of you will know exactly who I am talking about. She supposedly is doing well now, but it would be great if you could keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
Today, I tried something that I had never done before, meditation. Along with Mickey Feeney, who was a sort of 'coach' to me, I embarked a very interesting mental experience. At first it was very hard to dismiss my thoughts, for things were happening all around me (In the MPR) but as I calmed down, something pretty cool occurred. I entered a sleepy trance, while still being completely conscious of what was happening around me. It was like I was listening to a recorded video, while not actually being part of it. Yes, it was strange, but when I opened my eyes some twenty minutes later, I felt refreshed, and renewed, like I had just woken from a nice dream. Definitely give it a try if you have the time.
Although I was extremely impressed with the WW. Fenn Finalists, I personally did not agree with the winners. I can understand that the judges (who did a great job) liked the winner's use of complex latin words, but I believe that he was not as great as some of the other speakers, such as Anthony and Sam.
Currently I am slightly disappointed with Moby Dick. For one thing, there has been over 40 chapters without any contact with whales. For a book that's main topic is whales, that's quite along time. As always, the over-the-top description is present with every page. Hopefully it gets more interesting in the near future.
With 9 days before application letters come in, the nervousness is finally starting to get to me. For numerous months, my attention and effort has been put into this one day. Hopefully it pays off. Anyways, today was pretty regular.
Everybody enjoyed my presentation on Africa today. Mr. Sharon thinks it would be great if I showed it at All School meeting. I am pretty excited to tell my experience, but at the same time a little nervous, as everyone is before they go in front of a crowd. Mr. Santos informed me that our Squad basketball team had the best record of any team this winter season. Considering that last year was a defeated season, I am quite satisfied with that.
My presentation got postponed until Thursday because of time restrictions. Although I'm disappointed, it gives me one more of preparation, which never hurts. I was able to go see my first Fenn hockey, which was incredibly fun. Although we lost be a substantial margin, they definitely left their hearts on the ice. Our final Squad Basketball game was canceled, which ends our season with a 6-2 record, which I would say is pretty darn good. Just like that, 2 thirds of my last year at Fenn are over. Man has it gone by quick.
